Water Grill in Costa Mesa has been one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the year. Located right across the street from South Costa Plaza, this seafood restaurant offers seafood so fresh you can see the live tanks from the kitchen. If that is not enough to get you excited about Water Grill, this multi-million dollar restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with trendy copper accents throughout. I was recently invited to a media event where I was able to sample several dishes and drink pairings that completely wowed from start to finish.

We started our meal with a serving of fresh Beausoleil Oysters from Nova Scotia and Sea Cow Oysters from the Hammersley Inlet in Washington. In other words, some damn good tasty oysters served with their signature cocktail, The Spritz. These are probably some of the freshest oysters in all of Orange County and believe me, you can taste the difference. I was even able to enjoy the larger oysters which I typically tend to shy away from.

Next, we enjoyed a delicious lump crab cake served with a celery slaw. The crab cake, was of course, perfect. I was not surprised of course when you can see the live king crabs from the tanks in the kitchen.Although not a fan of celery, I also loved the celery slaw because of the pickled onions. I absolutely love pickled onions and they were the perfect accompaniment to the crab cakes. This dish paired with The Bristol, named after the popular Costa Mesa street the restaurant shares an address with.

Then was the fan favorite, the lobster rolls. Let’s be honest, is there anyone on the planet who doesn’t like a lobster roll? Unless you are allergic or a complete weirdo like my fiance, everyone loves a lobster roll. These were my favorite kind because they let the lobster be the star. There was no mayo or greasy mess. Just very lightly buttered lobster, served on a soft brioche bun, accompanied by perfect thick cut homemade fries. I am positive this is likely one of their most popular dishes and for good reason.

Sea Bass with Cauliflower Puree

For our main course, we enjoyed a delicious sea bass with a cauliflower puree and brown butter sauce. If you are looking for a light and healthy dish then you will love this. As with everything they serve, the sea bass was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection.

Brioche & Croissant Bread Pudding with Caramel Ice Cream

Last but certainly not least was a brioche and croissant bread pudding topped with caramel ice cream and a sprinkle of red sea salt. Dessert is my favorite food group so I was especially excited to dig right into this dish, but not after capturing the perfect photograph of course. I wanted to picture this right in front of their awesome fireplace so I had to work quickly, but I have to say this is one of my all time favorite food photography pictures. It’s since been re-posted several times on my Instagram, which you should totally be following by the way if you want to see all my foodie finds!

Normally I can choose a favorite dish but it is honestly so hard to do at this restaurant. If I had to choose I would say it must have been the crab cake because I literally devoured it. Although I thought I was going to get my hands slapped away while eating the lobster roll too.

I might be small, but please do not trust your food around me, I will eat it.
